Friday 23 de May
Alpaca Tent – Visiting Times
From 11.30 to 14.30 and from 16.00 a 22.00

11.00 Alpaca fibre competition - Because of restrictions on space the competition will be held in another place.The winners of the fibre competition will be displayed in the Alpacas tent on Saturday & Sunday

15.15 Inaugural meeting of SEDA (Sociedad Española de Alpacas) - In the Institutional Pavillion

17.00 Seminar ‘Caring for Alpacas and Breeding Objectives.’ - In the Institutional Pavillion.
Seminar for alpaca owners and others interested in alpacas to cover business opportunities and breeding objectives – Dra Monyka Portocarrero and Tim Hey. We are fortunate to have two such highly regarded experts in Spain at the same time and that they are able to give their time to produce this seminar.

The seminar is free for those who are members of SEDA and will help those who are new to alpacas and those who are considering owning them.

12.00 Veterinary seminar – In the Institutional Pavillion
Presented by Dr Monyka Portocarrero.

Biography:
Veterinarian Dr Monyka Portocarrero graduated at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima. She's studied a master degree on  Animal Production at Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina. She'd worked at Alas Peruanas University as a professor on South American Camelids Production and Health. Since 1998 she's been working on alpacas production and health of private Peruvian owners; she has also been consultant for foreign breeders.

The seminar will cover
  • Types of medicine for common ailments – including vaccinations for diseases like Clostridial and Blue Tongue
  • Diarrhea in cria, especially very young ones – what to do and when with different types of diarrhea
  • Pregnant alpacas
  • What is different about alpacas from sheep/horses/dogs (not the obvious!)
  • Anatomy –especially of the neck

18.00 Raffle Draw –in the Alpaca Tent

The Spanish Alpaca society has organised a raffle to take place in the Alpaca tent during the Ronda Feria held from the 23 to 25 of may 2008.

The money collected through ticket sales for the raffle will be donated to ‘ASPRODISIS’ (The association of  intellectually disabled People in Ronda y Comarca Natural).
