The Spanish Alpaca Society
If you like alpacas, own alpacas or
just want to be kept informed about
these wonderful animals then this
Society is for you.
As a member you will be entitled to
have a say in the running and development
of the industry in Spain,
receive information bout the world
wide market and have your animals
registered with the Society.
If you are looking to invest in Alpacas,
then the Society can give you advice
and help regarding their welfare
and put you in touch with breeders
in Spain.
The membership fee for 2008 is €50,
unless you own alpacas in which
case the fee is €100.
There is a once
off joining fee of €50, which will be
waived if you join before June 1st 2008.
Aims
The Society is dedicated to the welfare of alpacas and
the education of their owners in Spain.
To promote the alpaca as a sustainable industry within
Spain by helping members as appropriate.
Objectives
- To ensure that the resources of the membership are used effectively to meet the Society’s objectives
- To create, and manage an alpaca registry which is efficient, viable and a permanent resource for the Society and is recognised worldwide.
- To establish a minimum standard for screening imported alpacas to protect members and to ensure constant improvement in the Spanish National herd.
- To create an efficient welfare network of vets and breeders which will act in emergency, day to day, and as an educational resource for the membership and the protection of the alpaca in Spain
- To organise shows and competitions throughout Spain to help members promote their businesses.
- To create a pool of qualified and experienced alpaca judges and to create show rules compatible with the rest of Europe.
- To create an accessible, informative resource in basic alpaca knowledge, husbandry and welfare accessible to all members and the general public.
- To promote and encourage alpaca owners in their regions to organise themselves as self help groups to share resource, information and experience and to maximise the benefits available from the Society.
- To encourage all members to participate in any way they can in all the activities of the Society.
- To liaise with, and lobby, Government, local, regional, national and European, acting as the mouthpiece of the alpaca industry to ensure that alpacas are properly recognised and that their welfare needs are understood
Membership
- There will be two types of membership.
- Full member, who must own at least two alpacas.
- Associate member, who does not need to own any alpacas.
- An owner of a herd (Full Member) may have one vote, but can be represented by either owner, manager or whomsoever the herd owner chooses. As many people from the Herd (owner, partner, manager etc) may attend meetings but only one of those people may vote.
- The membership fee for one year for a Full Member will be 100 euros, payable at the beginning of the financial year.
- For Associate Members the fee will be 50 euros each or per couple and there is no entitlement to vote, but Associate Members may attend meetings.
- The Society will be incorporated under Spanish law and all documents will be published in Spanish and English.
- The inaugural members will not have to pay a joining fee, but any member who joins after the start date (June 1st) will pay 50 euros joining fee.
- The Society will have various officers who will be elected by the membership. It will at least include a Chairman, Treasurer and Administrator. The exact make up of the Board will need to be relevant to the size of the Society, Spanish law and the wishes of the members.
The General Registry
All alpacas resident in Spain on 31st December 2008 will be eligible to join the registry, provided any fees are paid by then. Thereafter any animals born to registered animals may join the registry, but imported animals will not be eligible to join.
The cost for registering alpacas before the 31st of December will be €120 per herd and thereafter the cost will be €10 per animal registered. The cost of transferring an animal to a new owner will be the same as registering the animal
Shows
Shows will be organised according to the rules set by the Society. Any Society show will be open to all members.
The Society will appoint an organiser for any such show and that person will accept the responsibility of ensuring that members are treated equally and that the show rules are honoured. The Society may provide finance for such shows, but expects that shows normally beak even. Neither the organiser nor other members will be paid for such responsibility.
